Guidelines for Computer & Internet Use
The following rules were established to ensure equitable access to the Library’s electronic resources. All users are required to comply with these guidelines. Failure to do so will result in suspension and/or loss of the library privileges. The BPL staff reserves the right to end a computer session if any activity is causing disruption of library services or if the behavior of the patron becomes inappropriate for a library setting. · Users must possess a valid and non-restricted Bentonville Public Library card. · Adults living outside Benton County may sign up for temporary computer use. Temporary registration is valid for 30 days and requires the presentation of a driver’s license. After 30 days, users must obtain a Bentonville Public Library card. · Patrons under 16 years old must use a “Family Friendly” computer unless accompanied by an adult. · Patrons may log on to the computer for 1 session per day for the duration of 1 hour. · Game playing and participation in online chat rooms are viewed as low-priority computer use. The Library reserves the right to limit these activities. · The computers are set up for use by one person. In some cases, however, it may be necessary for two persons to work together at a single computer. Due to limited space, a maximum of two persons may work at a computer. Staff reserves the right to limit any computer usage to only one person. · Headphones must be used with the volume at a comfortable level that will not disturb other library users. Patrons may purchase personal headphones from the Library for $5.00 each. · Public displays of obscenity are prohibited by Arkansas State Law and are a clear violation of the Library’s Computer Use Policy. · Users may not save their data on the hard drives of Library computers. They may save their data on a floppy disk or CD available for purchase for $1.00 at the circulation desk. · Users may not alter or attempt to alter software configurations, install or download software to the computers. · Computers may not be used for any fraudulent or unlawful purpose. Any illegal activity involving the Library’s resources or equipment will be subject to prosecution by appropriate authorities. · All computers will shut down 15 minutes before closing. · No Beverages at the computer terminals please. |
How to log on the Public Access Computers?
· Sit down at an available computer (the word Available must appear on the log in screen). · Click on Available to open the log in box. · Type in the full number at the bottom of your library card without any spaces and your PIN and hit ENTER (if you do not know your PIN, please check with the Circulation Desk). · The Internet and Computer Use Guidelines will appear and you must click on Accept to continue with the log on. · The Library’s Public Access page will open with a box at the top counting down your minutes on the computer. Patrons are allocated 60 minutes per session. · To log off, you need to click on Done at the top. Printing Facilities at BPL
· The Library has automated payment machines (APM) located at each printer which can be used for printing. The APM accepts one dollar bills and all coins except pennies. ● Patrons may print from computers and the Internet. Printing is 15˘ for black-and-white copy and 30˘ for color copy. ● A photocopier is located in the Library’s Copy Center. Copies are 15˘ per page. Express Checkout Stations Are Simple to Use
The Express Checkout Stations are located at the circulation desk. In order to check out your books by yourself, you will need to do the following:
· Scan your library card barcode under the red line . You may remove your card when the scanner beeps 1 time.
· You will be asked to enter your 4 digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). The default PIN is the last four digits of your phone number.
· Press Continue on the touch screen.
· Put your books on the black pad, and watch the screen to make sure all the items are on the screen. Audio books, magazines, videos, DVDs and music CDs will need their barcodes scanned individually.
· Follow the instructions on the screen and then press Continue.
· Press Done and wait until the Express Checkout Station prints your receipt of the items you have checked out.
